Nintendo Direct Mini 1.11.2018
Blogging live to you and yours! It’s your boy TWOTALL4UFOOL! What a day! There’s a lot to discuss and we’ll discuss the good and the bad regarding this Nintendo Direct Mini. I didn’t even think it was going to happen. They announced nothing then today they surprise everyone. They probably didn’t say anything because everyone knew when they were going to do it. Way to pull a sneaky one Nintendo! But it wasn’t an hour long like a lot of people were predicting, and some of the stuff people predicted they were going to talk about wasn’t talked about either. So let’s dip in and list what Nintendo did talk about.

Dark Souls Remastered | May 25th, 2018
I believe the biggest surprise from all this has to be Dark Souls Remastered. I can say I didn’t see this one coming at all. I’m also excited about the upcoming DLC for Super Mario Odyssey and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Luigi makes an appearance in Super Mario Odyssey and new outfits. How cool is that? And Donkey Kong and Mario fighting side by side with one another for the first time. I can’t wait to see how this alliance works. I’ve always wanted to see Mario and Donkey Kong be allies in an adventure and we are finally getting it. Speaking of Donkey Kong it looks like Tropical Freeze is getting ported over from the Wii U to the Switch as well. I really wanted to play this game and now I have my opportunity May 4th. Of the other games announced I’m willing to give Hyrule Warriors a try, I’ll get Payday 2 and play online (if enough of my friends get it), and Mario Tennis Aces looks really fun. I haven’t purchased a Mario sports game in a long time so I’m curious to see what kind of surprises they have in this game. Now let’s check to see how I did on my predictions from my previous blog.
Online and Virtual Console: Nope. I’m sure fans are pissed about this one.
Release dates for the Kirby and Yoshi games: I was half right on this one.
More info on Bayonetta 3 and the 2 ports: Nope.
Themes for the Switch on eShop: Nope.
More video apps such as Netfilx, and YouTube announced: Nope and this is concerning.
A Donkey Kong Country game is announced: I said either a new one or a port. So I was correct.
DLC for Super Mario Odyssey: Knocked this one right of the park.
A new Luigi’s Mansion game is announced: Nope. I guess we’ll have to wait for Mario Is Missing 4.
A new Super Smash Bros. is announced or we get a port: Nope. My guess is we’ll hear something by E3. If not 2019.
#10 GTA V is coming to the Nintendo Switch: Nope. But I think this also will either be announced at or before E3. If not then I don’t think it will be coming to the Switch.
So of my ten predictions I got a score of 2.5/10. Could’ve been worse. Overall I’m happy with what they announced and I know this will definitely hold me over until we see what they have to announce at a perhaps spring Nintendo Direct or E3. They have a lot of content out right now and I know I won’t have the time to play everything. And a lot of good games are coming from the indie side of things as well. Fans have nothing to be disappointed about content wise. But I know there are fans out there that were totally let down.
Let’s talk about the online. It’s horrible. And I hate the fact that there is no online voice chat on the Switch itself. That app you download for your mobile phone is crap and I know there are alternatives like Discord out there but it’s 2017 get with the times Nintendo. They have a lot of momentum and are a few moves away from I really taking this industry by storm. What they’ve done with the Switch already in less than a year is excellent but they need to get it together with this online.
Next I want to touch on them selling themes on the eshop. Like I said before this is something they are just losing money on. Themes are a big part of their competitors interface and all Switch users have a choice of is either white or black. I know they wanted to make look simple but us the players choose what the background could look like at least. They could have Mario themes, Donkey Kong themes, Zelda themes, etc,. They could easily have over 100 and people would buy them. They’ll lose more money everyday the longer we can’t have themes on the eShop to download. Speaking of downloads can we get Netflix, and YouTube along with that please?
Last thing I want to touch is Virtual Console. Yes I know this has the most people upset and going crazy. Especially the retro gaming community. People want to take their old school retro games on the go with them. It’s one of their biggest money makers over the years and for them not to say anything and it’s almost been a year is kind of crazy to me. So what’s their plan? Are they going to replace it with the NES/SNES mini. And possibly the N64 mini when it comes out. May as well start working on that GameCube mini as well. What I think will happen is they’ll just start selling titles down the line or they will bring it in with their paid online service (whenever that is going to happen). Hopefully they give us access to the full library of games that was ever available on all the their past gen consoles. Hopefully we are treated to something incredible later on down the line and it will make the wait well worth it.
Like I said before I’m happy with what they announced but what about you? Are ok with what they did or were you let down? Let me know in the comments below.
