Best Sonic Games!

Blogging live to you and yours! It’s your boy TWOTALL4UFOOL! I came across an article by Polygon listing the best 12 Sonic The Hedgehog games ever. If you’ve never been to Polygon they are a gaming and entertainment website. Definitely check them out when you get a chance. What I thought was ironic is that they had to do a “Top 12” and not something normal like a “Top 10”. Anyway link to the article is here. I’m just going to list the games they had put my initial reaction to them and then form my “Top 5”.

12. Sonic Spinball. Not one of my favorites but I guess it’s an alright game.

11. Sonic Unleashed. I’m surprised this game made the “Top 12” but I guess it is better than some of the other Sonic titles that have come out over the years. I definitely can see why people don’t like this game.

10. Sonic Heroes. This is a good one. If you haven’t played this game the game play is very excellent. If you can find a GameCube, PS2 or an emulator try it out.

9. Sonic Generations. A great game of all of the past games of Sonic all rolled into one. Maybe they should do a 2nd one?

8. Sonic Adventure. The first of the Sonic 3D games. It was really good.

7. Sonic Adventure 2. The best of the Sonic 3D games. This I feel should be higher on the list.

6. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Never played this game. Seems like an interesting concept. Sonic in an RPG. If I can find it I’ll let you guys know.

5. Sonic The Hedgehog. The first Sonic game. The most memorable to a lot o people but definitely not the best one.

4. Sonic CD. Never got all the way through this game but it’s definitely an interesting one. I have it on several platforms. Maybe it’s one I should stream for you all.

3. Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Much better than the first (maybe not the music). Introduced Tails and the spin move. And it also had a 2-Player versus mode. Not the best but a step into getting more than one person involved.

2. Sonic The Hedgehog 3. I thought this was an interesting choice for number two but it is a good game. Me personally I haven’t beaten yet but I will…. one of these days. Maybe another Sonic title to stream for you guys.

1. Sonic Mania. Every Sonic fan’s dream. The best of all the 2D side scrolling games all rolled into one and then some. If you haven’t played this game yet (and you are a Sonic fan). PLAY IT. It’s on all consoles so NO EXCUSES. And it’s not a title that will break the bank either.

So that was Polygon’s list. I think for the most part they got it right. I would’ve had some of the games in different positions but the writer Diego Arguello did a good job. But below are my “Top 5” Sonic games.

5. Sonic Generations. It wasn’t the longest Sonic game but I thought it was very well done. Seeing a game that goes back to Sonic’s roots to where it was ten years ago I thought was really special.

4. Sonic Adventure. I think this is the game that got me truly into Sonic. It was one of the first games I had on my Dreamcast and it’s a game I never get tired of playing when I turn it on. Looking back I think this is the first Sonic game I ever owned now that I think about it.

3. Sonic Mania. Like I said before. A great modern take on the classic Sonic games. Any Sonic game out there should have this game in their collection.

2. Sonic Adventure 2. The best of the Sonic 3D games. Introduces characters like Shadow and Rogue. I thought the levels were very well done to the characters abilities. Especially the Sonic and Shadow levels.

1. Sonic The Hedgehog 2. I thought this was the best Sonic 2D game. Great levels, and gameplay for the time. And this is a title I’ve actually beaten. LOL! Wasn’t easy though.

So as you can see I have a bit of love for some of the Sonic 3D games. If they were good games I’ll let you guys know. But I know we all have different tastes. But I feel Sonic has evolved very well over the years. Sonic Mania is a great game and has 2D fans taken care of. But they need to do something for the 3D fans. The recent 3D games aren’t cutting it.
