Initial Thoughts: Now as far as first party titles go for Sony this is probably one of the bigger ones if not the biggest. It’s too bad I never got to play a demo of this game at any of the conventions I’ve been to but I was hopeful that wait was going to be well worth it. I was hopeful that this game would be well worth the hype. Perhaps the best superhero video game I’ve ever played. Well it was a long wait but this game doesn’t disappoint. Let me explain further.
Description: One of the things I liked about this game is that it gives Spider-Man/Peter Parker a new approach. We don’t see him as a high schooler like we’ve seen him in the past. He’s in his mid twenties and the story already seems to be established. He’s gone up against supervillains such as Electro, Vulture, and Rhyno. He has a police contact in the NYPD Capt. Yuri Watanabe. As for other characters there is his Aunt May. His on again off again girlfriend Mary Jane Watson. And a new character Miles Morales. You also have familiar faces such as Norman Osborn, and Dr. Otto Octavious. I don’t want to give too much away on the plot if you plan on playing the game. The gameplay is amazing and I feel this is what steals the show. You can control how you play and choose how you advance in the story. Early on in the game you can get experience points and level up by doing various things around the city. These include simple activities such as taking pictures of landmarks across New York City, finding backpacks to learn more about Parker’s backstory, finding police towers so you can see more of the city, and of course fighting bad guys that are doing crimes across the city. The fighting mechanics in this game are a little similar to that of the Batman Arkham games in my opinion. You do a bit free flow fighting with certain button combinations. It’s a bit tough to master but once it is mastered it’s a piece of cake to control. Let me tell you I was getting my ass handed to me in the beginning. So don’t feel bad if you die a lot in the beginning. It does take time to master. Another thing that is great about this game is the old fashioned web slinging. Best since Spider-Man 2. So easy to do and you can do so much more with it. It’s pretty awesome. My suggestion would be try to level up as much as you can early on. You can go through the game without doing any of the side missions or extra stuff around the city but if you are not around level 50 you may have a bit of a difficult time getting through the later part of the game. The campaign is relatively short but there is plenty to do. And with the DLC just getting underway you’ll be on this game for a long time.
Final Thoughts: This has to be one of the best games I’ve ever played in recent years. Definitely a front runner for game of the year. If you own a PS4 and do not own this game yet then I have to ask! What are you doing man? Even if you have a backlog of games you are trying to get through just shoot this game to the top. All your other games can wait. I’m telling you! Take it from me!
My Score: With this being one of the best games I’ve played in recent years you know I gotta give this game a 10/10. Just a superb game and a great pleasure to play for anyone that touches it. Whether you are a fan of great video games, or someone who is big Spider-Man fan you’ll love this classic. The wait was well worth it.
Music: Here’s a link to the soundtrack of this game. You can also listen to it on Spotify or Apple Music. It’s your typical Spider-Man music. Not my favorite music but it definitley fits the game I can say.
Video Gameplay Footage: I’ll do my best to have a video up for this game within a week or so. The next time I stream this game I’ll use that footage to put up on my YouTube channel.
