Blogging live to you and yours! It’s your boy TWOTALL4UFOOL! Cross-platform play with Sony still continues to be an issue. It appears that they haven’t allowed the PS4 to use c- Since they blocked exisiting Fortnite players from letting them use their Epic Games accounts on the Nintendo, Switch or Xbox One it hasn’t gone very well with most gamers. Myself included. And they still refuse to give into cross-platform play. Not with that game but any game that offers it. But now we’ve heard an explanation on why Sony won’t give into crossplay. According to an article with the Independent Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida explains that “PlayStation is the best place to play”. Did he really just say that? He goes on to also explain that “we have opened up cross-platform play for some of their games with PC and some other platforms”. (I’m only paraphrasing here).
Ok I’ve been supporting Sony for a very long time. I’m not a fan boy but I do feel it is the best console on the market right now. But don’t get too ahead of yourself Sony because I feel Nintendo is not too far behind. And I also feel that many people who made the PS4 their primary console has made a switch to the Switch. Statements like that make me feel that Sony is just getting too cocky and that fans will just accept whatever decisions they decide to make. Don’t let history repeat itself. Shall we take trip down memory lane people.
The year 2006 when the PS3 was announced! All was good until they announced the price! Six-hundred bucks for a 60GB OG PlayStation 3? Seriously Sony? And a bunch of crappy launch titles? Yeah how did that work out for you Sony? I know how it worked out for me. I paid $300 for a 120GB. Yep I got the PS3 Slim. That’s a nice way of Sony saying “we messed up”. So Sony I’m telling you don’t do the same with cross-platform play. Gamers want it. How you are locking gamers out of their Epic Games account on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms isn’t right. And I really feel that it won’t affect the Sony brand one bit.
But saying quotes like that can actually hurt the Sony brand. And they’ve been killing it with the PS4 since the beginning of this generation. Most homes in America only have one console. So the fact that they were able to get consumers who previously had an Xbox 360 is pretty remarkable. Part of it was Microsoft getting off to a bad start with the Xbox One. But Sony can’t get on their high horse and just be saying that they are the best and throw cross-platform play out the window. Cross-platform play what Sony fails to realize is the future of gaming. Most homes in America and the world are only going to be households that have one console. So when a consumer buys a console they are going to be looking at several things. One of them will be 1st party games. The second will be strong 3rd party support. And another thing they will be looking at is cross-platform play. I predict at the end of this generation and beyond that we will see more cross-platform play between the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Sony better jump on the train and stop being greedy.
Anyway I always like to hear what you think. What are your thoughts on Sony’s comments? Will Sony eventually just give into to cross-platform play? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time!
