Initial Thoughts: I really hoping going into the Nintendo Switch’s second year that they would put out a Donkey Kong Country game. As many ports as they have been doing for the Switch it doesn’t quite surprise me that they ported this game. I was excited because it was great to play a DKC game again. But for those of you haters and people upset about this being ported and any other ports I will say this once again, “NOT EVERYONE HAD A WII U.”.

Description: It seems that Donkey Kong Isle has been invaded once again by intruders. You go out as Donkey Kong with your Kong buddies Diddy, Dixie, and for the first time ever playable Cranky Kong. Just like the previous game Donkey Kong Country Returns it continues its side scrolling platforming game play. You go through each level discovering secrets within the level to obtain puzzle pieces. Collecting coins that you can use to purchase items that will help you on your quest. And you can also spell the word KONG like you have been able to in the previous games. That is always fun. When you come across your Kong buddies they each have unique abilities that can help guide you through each level. Sometimes when you come across the barrel that they are in they’ll give you a choice or it’ll be one that you have to go with. You’ll see their intials on the barrel. There is a lot to be discovered in each level. You can even discover secret levels. I have yet to discover any of those yet. Once you progress through each world you’ll come across Funky Kong where he sells you items that can help you out. Speaking of Funky Kong one of the things they added in the Nintendo Switch version of the game is you can play as Funky Kong. He has a surf board that helps him jump high, he swims underwater for a much longer period of time, he can stand on spikes without losing power, and he has more power than Donkey. This mode of the game is called Funky Mode. You can also be Donkey Kong in this mode if you like. But if you want to spend more time discovering secrets and just relaxing while playing the game. Then this mode is for you as this game does get more difficult the deeper you get. But however you choose to play you’ll be in for some mad fun.

Final Thoughts: If you had this game for the Wii U I would pass on picking this up. I guess you could pick it up if you want to play as Funky. But if you didn’t own a Wii U this is a must own for your Switch collection. The only complaint I have is that I wish they would bring back King K. Rool and the Kremlings. Only if they were to work it out with Rare maybe they would make a return. But otherwise I’m having fun playing this.

My Score: I give this game a 9/10. Highly recommend picking this one up people.

Music: Check out the game’s soundtrack here.
