N64 Classic Edition Predictions

Blogging live to you and yours! It’s your boy TWOTALL4UFOOL! Nintendo has been heavy hitters the last two years with their classic lineup of consoles and games. The NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition have been hits and to this day there are people who I’m sure want one of them (or both) but haven’t been able to get their hands on one. But now summer is almost here and I wonder if we will be getting an announcement about a N64 Classic Edition. Well if we are getting one or not, let’s have some fun with this and make some predictions about it.

Now the first thing is the price point. I think that the minimum it’ll be priced at is $99.99. Possibly more if they give you more than two controllers. I think if Nintendo wants to be smart about it they will just give you four controllers out of the box so you don’t have to buy that separately. We all saw how well that worked with the NES Classic Edition. At least they corrected it with the SNES Classic Edition. The last thing I’m sure Nintendo wants is scalpers selling extra N64 controllers. So if they do give us four controllers which I’m predicting they will it’ll be priced at about $119.99. I can’t see it being any higher than that. Hopefully they make the controllers more comfortable than they were back then. On a personal note I hate the N64 controllers. One of the worst ever. But that’s a whole other story for another time. I would like to see some wireless controllers but that’s wishful thinking.

Next thing I want to touch on are games. Now there was a list that leaked late last year. It was on Nintendo’s UK website but many believe this is the list of games they are going to be putting on the N64 Classic Edition. I’m going to go over this list and give you my thoughts but first I want to give you a list of games not on that list that I would like to see make the final cut. They probably won’t but it never hurts to ask, predict, and dream.

WCW/nWo Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, or WWF No Mercy– One of these three games would make me happy. Even though I was on team WWF (known as WWE now) during the time of the Monday Night Wars these are three very good wrestling games during the N64 era. THQ did a very good job and I wish they were still around today doing the WWE games because 2K has been making them horrible lately. Realistically it probably won’t happen because of licensing issues. Unless they change all the names of the wrestlers. LOL!

Turok The Dinosaur Hunter– This is the first game I played that was rated M for mature. LOL! I think that’s what made this game cool enough back in the day for me to get my hands on. Not the most memorable game on the N64 but it definitely made it’s impact among fans and I’m sure people would be fine with it coming to the N64 Classic Edition.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon– I didn’t really get into this game too much. I remember renting it from my local Blockbuster and thank god I did rent it because I don’t think I would’ve like it if I had purchased it. But I know a lot of people were fans of the game back in the day. So again I’m sure very many people wouldn’t be upset if this game was on the list.

Gauntlet Legends– This game was awesome. The follow up to it Gauntlet Dark Legacy was even better. This is definitely a game four players could get down to and play. Very easy to get the hang of and definitely you are in for hours of fun if you play it. If you’ve never played a Gauntlet game then watch some game play on it. I guarantee you’ll want to play it on an emulator or look for an arcade that has this game. I saw at the Arcade Expo I was at last month.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron– I’m not the biggest fan of Star Wars but this is definitely a really good game. I had fun playing this game flying as the Millenium Falcon and going on missions. If you’ve never played this game definitely check it out or look at some game play on it. One of the better Star Wars games I’ve ever played.

Rare games- This was a big 3rd party developer for the N64. It would be excellent if any of these games made the N64 Classic. But with that studio belonging to Microsoft now I highly doubt that any of those games (with the exception of Donkey Kong 64) will make the N64 Classic. This includes titles such as Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, and Goldeneye 007. Sorry fans but those games won’t be on there. But I’m sure some will hack it and you can add any game you want to it. The only question is will the single board computer the games are running on be strong enough to handle some of these games. A lot of N64 games were made in different resolutions due to it being cartridge based which makes it a pretty tough console to emulate.

Listed below are the rumored games for the N64 Classic Edition:

  • 1080° Snowboarding
  • Bomberman™ 64
  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Excitebike 64
  • F-Zero X
  • Mario Golf
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Mario Party 2
  • Mario Tennis
  • Paper Mario
  • Pokémon Snap
  • Sin and Punishment
  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Wave Race 64
  • Yoshi’s Story
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
  • Star Fox 64

Now I can’t complain about a single game on this list. Sin and Punishment is definitely a bonus game that was never released in the US so that would be a real treat to fans. Mario Party 2 is definitely the best of the three original Mario Party titles. It’s great to see both Zelda titles on there as both games were great and if you never played Star Fox 64 it’s MUCH better than SNES versions (maybe not the music however). So if you count that up that’s a total of 19 games. Again I don’t see this thing being more than $119.99 with four controllers so if they were to cut some games from this list I wouldn’t be surprised.

So I want to know. Do you think there will be an N64 Classic? If so how much? How many controllers? How many games? This topic brings up great conversation for such a great console. If you have anything to add please leave them in the comments below. Blogging live to you and yours it’s your boy TWOTALL4UFOOL. Remember TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE. Thanks for reading folks.
